Car lovers will do everything to ensure that their vehicle looks top class and up-to-date. That’s where the debate arises regarding ceramic paint coatings and paint protection films. Most people don’t know that these are not the same, and there are some significant differences between them. Without any further due, let’s begin and discuss that how are ceramic paint coatings and paint protection films different from each other.
The Composition
Firstly, the main difference is in their composition. Ceramic paint coatings are liquid polymers that are applied externally to vehicles by hand. On the other hand, paint protection films are transparent films/wraps made of urethane. On a broader spectrum, both are intended for vehicle protection, but if we talk specifically, then there are some significant differences.
Protection From Scratches
Secondly, the paint protection films have self-healing properties. They can protect your vehicle from scratches. Even if your car gets minor scratches, the elastomeric property of paint protection films will restore the original texture and structure. However, ceramic paint coatings don’t have self-healing properties. They cannot protect your vehicle from scratches or restore the structure after minor ones as they do not contain elastomers.
Shiny Appearance
Thirdly, ceramic paint coatings provide high-quality aesthetics, shiny, and glossy appearance, but paint protection films can not provide the glossy sheen. However, they do give a lustrous sheen, but they have more of a clearer appearance.
Water Repellent Properties
Last but not least, ceramic paint coatings have water repellent properties, due to which it’s a lot easier to clean vehicles that have ceramic paint coatings. Likewise, it also prevents dirt and debris from clinging to the vehicle’s surface. While the paint protection films cannot repel water as their nature is not hydrophobic.
